COLLEGE PARK, MD - The George Washington University Men's and Women's Cross Country Team continued a spring season characterized by personal record setting performances at the University of Maryland April 5th. Facing off against twelve top area teams, the Colonials were able to finish strongly in each of their contested events.

Junior captain Darrell Andruski (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) once again led the way for the men's squad. Andruski turned in a time of 15:18 for a third place finish in the 5,000 meter run. Other strong showings for the men included a tough 400 meter performance by junior Giannis Doulamis (Nashua, NH/Nashua) and a gutsy 1500 by freshman stand-out Phil Sherman (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich). Both were competing for the first time this season.

The women continued to please the crowd with personal record setting times. Junior captain Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) once again set the pace for the women, this time with her sites on the 5,000 meter records. She finished fourth in a deep field with a time of 18:45. Jadwin was pushed the entire way by sophomore Erin Patton (Saline, MI/Saline) who finished close behind in 18:47. Fighting off injury, freshman MVP Lindsay Blum (Holland, PA/Council Rock) crossed the line only seconds later for 7th place. Other top 5,000 meter finishers included sophomores Mary Beth McCullough (Brentwood, TN/Father Ryan) and Kristie Schumacher (Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) both returning from injury.

Throwers captain, sophomore Shikha Nigam (Cary, NC/Cary), ably handled the field events cruising into the finals for the women's javelin competition. In just her second week of competition in this event, she captured eighth in a field of twenty-two. Nigam also represented the Colonial Throwers in the discus competition.

The Colonial women also claimed several top spots in the 1500 meters. Led by sophomore Trina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA/The Lovett School) and freshman Meghan Dunn (Clinton, NY/Clinton), seven GW runners competed in this hotly contested event. Participation by the women's squad was rounded out by freshmen Olivia Schramm (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) and Emily Miletello (Baton Rouge, LA/Episcopal) in the 800 meter run.

The Colonials runners return to action April 11th and 12th at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA.
