Cross Country Places Third at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD (Sept. 23, 2000) Both the GW men's and women's cross country teams placed third in their respective races Saturday in College Park, MD. GW sophomore David Talbird finished third and teammate Darrell Andruski finished fourth, out of 47 runners, in the mens 8K event. On the women's side, Colonials sophomore Mackenzie Jessen placed 13th, out of 61 individuals, with teammate Jenee Peterson (14th) to lead GW in the 5K event.

Talbirds time of 26:34.40 was just 19 seconds off the pace set by Penn States John McGrorey who won the men's race in 26:15.70. Andruski crossed the finish four seconds later in the time of 26:38.80.

Jesson's time of 21:14.40 was just under two minutes behind individual winner Sasha Scott, who ran unattached with the winning time of 19:20.60. Peterson kept pace with Jessen with a time of 21:15.80.

For the Colonials, it was the final tune-up before hosting the GW Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29 at Bull Run Park in Centreville, VA. The women's race starts at 4:00 p.m. while the men's event will begin at 4:30 p.m.
