Men's Cross Country Places Fifth at GW Invitational; Women Twelfth

CENTREVILLE, VA (September 29, 2000) - Sophomore David Talbird finished ninth out of 126 runners to lead the Colonials to a fifth place finish in the nineteen-team GW Invitational Friday in Centreville, VA.

Talbird finished just ahead of teammate Darrell Andruski and one minute behind Virginia's Bobby Thiele who won the meet in 24:44.

Matt Kascak (27:16), David Azari (27:18), Mike Donaldson (27:25) and Chris Zurich (27:28) also had strong showings placing 50th, 54th, 60th and 62nd, respectively.

On the women's side, sophomore Mackenzie Jessen paced GW with a time of 20:19.94 over the 5,000-meter course, placing 49th out of 97 entrants. Jenee Peterson was 51st with a time of 20:22.18 and Brande Dietrich was 54th with a time of 20:28.26. Virginia claimed the top five spots in the meet including the winning time of 17:44.88 by Sarah Folse.
