
BLACKSBURG, VA (October 14, 2000) - Sophomore David Talbird (Lookout Mountain, TN/McCallie School) finished eighth out of 37 runners to lead the Colonials to a second place finish in the Virginia Tech Hall of Fame Invitational Saturday, October 14 in Blacksburg, VA.
Talbird finished in 26:22, which was good for fourth place out of all college entrants and freshman Devin Kennington (Sedona, AZ/Verde Valley) had his best race of the year finishing 15th with a time of 27:28. Sophomore Chris Zurich (Keene, NH/Keene) and freshman David Azari (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) also ran well finishing in 17th and 19th place, respectively.
On the women's side, sophomore Mackenzie Jessen (Gillette, WY/Campbell County) paced GW with a time of 19:59.71 over the 5,000-meter course, placing 23rd out of 44 entrants. Senior Brande Dietrich (Chicago, IL/Illinois Math & Science Academy) was 25th with a time of 20:16.42 and junior Jenee Peterson (Latham, NY/Shaker) was 28th with a time of 20:26.95.
GW also fielded a team at the George Mason Invitational. The men placed fifth and the women placed sixth. Sophomore Nathan Edwards finished 24th (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) with a time of 28:59.26 to lead the men. Junior Paige Simms (Bow, NH/Bow) finished in 21:51.51, which was good for 32nd place, to pace the women.
The Colonials return to action on October 28 as they travel to Philadelphia for the Atlantic 10 Championships.
