CHAPEL HILL, NC - North Carolina (6-0) catcher Benji Johnson's 11th inning walk-off home run (2) sent the George Washington University baseball team (1-2) to a 6-5 extra inning defeat Saturday afternoon in game two of a three game series at Boshamer Stadium.

The Colonials trailed 5-1 through seven innings but hammered out three straight RBI base hits and a run scoring groundout to score four times in the top of the eighth to tie the game 5-5.

In his first-ever collegiate appearance, GW freshman Tim Sexton (0-1) pitched brilliantly in relief as he allowed just two hits in 5.1 innings before surrendering the Tar Heels' game-winning shot.

UNC senior reliever Jonathan Hovis (1-0) threw 3.1 innings of no-hit ball to earn the win.

GW came within inches of taking a one-run lead in its half of the 11th when pinch runner Jeremy Hall (Houston, TX / Magnolia) advanced from first to third base on an errant pick-off attempt. One batter later third baseman Michael Parker (Newton, MA / Newton South) launched a long drive down the right field line with two outs that Tar Heels' right fielder Matt Spencer made a terrific diving catch on.

UNC opened a 3-0 advantage in the third inning with a double, three singles and three GW errors.

The Colonials scored a run in the fourth inning but the Tar Heels added two in the fifth to take their 5-1 lead.

Singles from catcher Andrew Abokhair (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) and centerfielder Matt Owens (Fayetteville, GA / Fayette County), followed by a run scoring double from right fielder Gavin Swanson (Reistertown, MD / Calvert Hall), brought the Colonials to within 5-4 in the eighth.

Designated hitter Jay Quinn (New York, NY / Bronx Science) then tied the game, 5-5, with an RBI groundout, scoring Abokhair from third base.

Colonials' starter RHP Brian Frazier lasted five innings, surrendering 10 hits and four earned runs.

Preseason All-American RHP Daniel Bard started for the Tar Heels and struck out nine batters, allowing four hits and one earned run in six innings.

GW looks to take the rubber match Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm.

Senior LHP Dan Pfau (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) will start for the Colonials.
