RICHMOND, VA Virginia Commonwealth University (5-4) used a five-run sixth inning and starter RHP Harold Mozingo (2-0) struck out eight and gave up one hit in 6.0 innings to defeat George Washington University (1-6) 7-2 Friday afternoon at The Diamond.

The Colonials scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead but the Rams broke the game open in the bottom half with four singles, a triple, two walks and an error to push five across and take a 6-2 lead.

Mozingo held GW hitless through 5.2 innings before third baseman Tom Shanley (Stanfordville, NY / Pine Plains) pulled an RBI double down the left field line to give the Colonials a 2-1 sixth inning advantage.

But VCU roared right back in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim its lead, 6-2. After a leadoff single and a walk chased GW starter RHP Brian Frazier (0-1), preseason All-America second baseman Scott Sizemore chopped an RBI single to left field and designated hitter Tim St. Clair tripled to drive in two more and set the score at 4-2.

First baseman Jared Bolden promptly followed with a base hit to send home St. Clair. A past ball and stolen base moved Bolden to third, and then a balk scored him to make it a 6-2 VCU advantage.

Frazier was charged with two earned runs in the sixth inning and three runs, overall, in 5.0 innings as he took the loss.

Sizemore went 3-for-4 in the game with a triple, a run scored and a RBI.

The defeat extends GW's losing streak to six games, its longest since it dropped seven straight in 1999.

The Colonials and Rams do it again on Saturday as GW sends LHP Dan Pfau (0-1, 7.11 ERA) to the hill and VCU counters with RHP John Leonard (0-1, 3.55 ERA).

Game time is 1:00 pm.
