George Washington baseball scored nine times in the first inning Saturday on the way to an 18-6 pounding of Monmouth to open a three-game set at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.

The Colonials (4-5) rolled up a season-high 19 hits, including six in the offensive explosion to start the game, in their third straight victory. Everybody in the order scored at least one run and six different players had at least two hits.

Key Stats

  • Senior Isaiah Pasteur reached base six times with two home runs, a single and three walks. The third baseman cleared the left field fence with solo shots in the third inning and then did it again in the sixth. He scored five runs, knocked in three and stole a base, as well.
  • Junior Dominic D'Alessandro set a career high with four hits, singling in each of his first four plate appearances. GW's designated hitter scored twice and knocked in one.
  • Senior Matt Cosentino knocked in five runs for the second time in three games. The first baseman did it with three hits, including a three-run homer in the third inning.
  • Mark Osis continued a strong senior season with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
  • Robbie Metz (2-3, three runs) and Nate Fassnacht (3-5, three RBI) also had multi-hit efforts.
  • GW starter Brady Renner took advantage of the big lead to attack Monmouth's lineup over six strong innings. The senior from New York allowed two runs on four hits en route to his first win of the season.
  • Tyler Swiggart followed with two impressive innings of relief. He worked around two hits and picked up three strikeouts to keep his ERA at 0.00 in 7 1/3 innings this season.


  • Top 1: GW chased Monmouth's Ricky Dennis in the opening inning. Eight of the first nine Colonials reached base, and they sent 14 batters to the plate in all.

    After two walks and a bunt single loaded the bases, Osis drove home the first run with a sacrifice fly. Consentino added a two-run single two batters later, and the Colonials kept pouring it on. They scored their nine runs via six singles, four walks and a Monmouth error. (GW 9, Monmouth 0)

  • Top 3: Kyle Norman got Monmouth on the board with a home run to left center. (GW 9, Monmouth 1)
  • Bottom 3: GW answered back with two home runs of their own. First, Pasteur cleared the left field fence. Then, Consentino went deep, bringing home Metz and Fassnacht. (GW 13, Monmouth 1)
  • Top 4: John LaRocca's sacrifice fly brought home Pete Papcun, who had doubled to lead off the inning. (GW 13, Monmouth 2)
  • Bottom 4: GW's patience paid off with D'Alessandro's leadoff single and three walks turning into a run. Osis drew the free pass that forced it in. (GW 14, Monmouth 2)
  • Bottom 6: Pasteur went deep again, this time powering through the win to put it out in right center. With two outs, an Osis double and a Fassnacht single plated another run. (GW 16, Monmouth 2)
  • Bottom 8: Fassnacht's two-out single plated Pasteur and Metz to finish the GW scoring. (GW 18, Monmouth 2)
  • Top 9: Monmouth scored four times in the final inning via four hits and an error. (GW 18, Monmouth 6)
