Colonials Shutdown by Flames' Starter RHP Michael Solbach

ARLINGTON, VA - Liberty University (12-3) connected for three home runs and starter RHP Michael Solbach (3-0) allowed no earned runs and struck out seven in 8.0 innings as the Flames defeated George Washington University (4-8) 7-1 Friday afternoon in the first of a three-game series at Barcroft Park.
Leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning, left fielder Phil Laurent led off the frame with a home run (3) and right fielder Derek Bennion later followed with a two-run shot (1) to give LU a 4-0 advantage.
An RBI single from second baseman Michael Just and then a two-run homer from first baseman Aaron Grijalva (3) in the seventh inning finished off the Colonials, 7-1.
Grijalva went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI in the game.
GW starter LHP Dan Pfau (1-2) struck out eight in 6.0 innings but was charged with four runs as he took the loss.
No Colonial recorded more than one hit in the game and designated hitter Andrew Abokhair (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) produced the only extra base hit with a fourth inning double.
Game two of the three game series is set for Saturday at 1:00 pm.
GW will send RHP Josh Wilkie (2-1, 3.79 ERA) to the mound while the Flames will counter with LHP Ryan Page (4-0, 1.52 ERA).
