Baseball Rolls Over Rams In Game One, 7-4 In Third Straight Victory
Tom Shanley's Four-For-Four Performance Extends Streak To 11 Games
April 3, 2004
BRONX, NY - Tom Shanley went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Dan Sullivan threw six and a third innings of six-hit ball to lead George Washington University (17-11, 3-1) to a 7-4 win over Fordham University (9-11-1, 3-1) in the first game of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader on Jack Coffey Field.
The Colonials took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one as Matt Owens and Shanley opened the game with consecutive singles, with Owens taking third on Shanley's single, and, one out later, Ryan Roberson plated Owens with a fielder's choice.
George Washington made it a 5-0 game with a run in the fourth, on a Milsom home run his third of the year, and three unearned runs in the sixth, as the Colonials took advantage of two Fordham errors.
An RBI double from Jeff Fertitta and an RBI single from Milsom put the Colonials up 7-0 in the top of the seventh before Fordham responded with four in the bottom of the inning on Kevin Brush's grand slam home run, his first of the year, but that was as close as the Rams would get.
Sullivan (3-3) struck out six batters while Derrick Lutz came on to record the final two outs for George Washington. Milsom finished with two hits and two RBI in game one for George Washington.
Kurt Thomas led the Fordham offense in the first game with two hits.
