Colonials Slam St. Bonaventure 15-4, Move into First in A-10

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team moved into first place in the A-10 conference standings on Saturday afternoon with a commanding 15-4 win over St. Bonaventure at Barcroft Park. The Colonials took advantage of six Bonnies errors and capped off their second straight sweep to begin the A-10 conference season. Senior Chris Holland had three hits and drove in a pair of runs in the rout and also scored two runs himself. Redshirt senior Chris Luick also had two hits and scored three runs in the win. In total, five Colonial players scored multiple runs in the contest and three had multi-hit games. Junior Brendon Kelliher and sophomore Stephen Oswald each had home runs in the contest, with Kelliher taking the team leading by hitting his seventh home run of the season. Oswald's home run came in the seven-run eighth inning when he pinch hit for freshman Robbie Haben and hit a towering home run over the right field wall. The Colonials scored in four frames in the contest, but made them count with multiple runs in each inning they scored in. On the mound, junior Eric Cantrell picked up his fourth win of the season by going six innings and now allowing an earned run on the day. The Oakton, VA native struck out seven batters to raise his team-leading total to 49. Freshman Brian Derner continued his string of strong outings by throwing two shutout innings and striking out a batter. Sophomore Marshall Seedorff pitched the ninth inning and got a double play to end the game and didn't allow a run.
George Washington will have another busy week next week with five games beginning with a visit to Annapolis, MD and taking on the Naval Academy on Tuesday, April 6th. First pitch will be at 3:00 p.m. The Colonials will then host George Mason on Wednesday, April 7th at Barcroft Park before heading to Dayton, OH to take on the Flyers next weekend.
