Towson Tigers Double Up GW Baseball, 6-3

April 4, 2006

Box Score

TOWSON, MD - Towson University (11-19) posted three runs in the third inning and three more in the sixth to defeat George Washington University (7-20) 6-3 Tuesday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning, the Colonials used two hits and a Tigers' throwing error to score two times and tie the game 3-3. But Towson answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to send GW to a 6-3 non-conference defeat.

Shortstop Michael Parker (Newton, MA / Newtown South) led off the top of the sixth with a double and scored on catcher Andrew Abokhair's (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) RBI base hit. Abokhair then advanced to second base on a ground out and scored on an errant throw to tie the game.

Parker recorded two of GW's four hits in the game.

Towson's three-run sixth inning was highlighted by a double from second baseman Gary Helmick that drove in two runs.

Third baseman A.J. Tinnerella went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI for the Tigers.

Towson RHP Austin Hurd (1-1) allowed one earned run on three hits as he threw the final 4.0 innings in relief to collect the win.

GW starter RHP Tim Sexton (1-5) was roughed up for six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings and suffered the loss.

Reliever RHP Pat Lehman (Fairlawn, NJ / Fairlawn) held the Tigers to no runs, two hits and did not walk a batter as he pitched the final 2.2 innings.

The Colonials also dropped their meeting with Towson one week ago on March 28th, falling 12-8 at home.

GW hosts Delaware State University (9-18-2) in its next game scheduled for Wednesday.

Game time is 3:00 pm.
