GW Falls to St. Bonaventure in Game Two of A-10 Series

April 6, 2007

Box Score

ARLINGTON, VA - George Washington (11-19, 3-5 A-10) struggled through six scoreless innings, as they fell to St. Bonaventure (9-15, 3-5 A-10) Friday afternoon at Barcroft Park by a final of 10-4 in the second game of their three-game conference series.

The Colonials scored in their first time at-bat, taking the early 1-0 lead. Mickey Shupin (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) hit a lazy fly ball into left that was dropped by the St. Bonaventure fielder, allowing Shupin to reach safely. The GW lead-off hitter then advanced to second on a groundout, stole third and came around to score on a Charlie Kruer (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) single into right.

The Bonnies came back in the top of the second, scoring three runs on two hits while taking advantage of a Colonial error. Brian Pellegrini drove in two of the runs with a single through the left side.

In the top of the third, St. Bonaventure scored five runs, on four hits, including another two-run single by Pellegrini to take control of the game with an 8-1 lead. A home run in the fifth by St. Bonaventure's first baseman, Josh Sova, made it 9-1. They added their 10th and final run in the eighth on a Tristan Mulcahy single.

GW pushed across two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a single into right center by freshman designated hitter Will Cooper (McLean, VA/Gonzaga College HS).

St. Bonaventure's starter, Michael Proctor, struck out six in seven innings and allowed just one run on six hits.

The two teams will face off in the rubber-match of their three game series Saturday, at 12:00 p.m.

Game Notes: Will Cooper had three hits in his first career start ... Doug Eizen (Philadelphia, PA/The Haverford School) made his first start since Feb. 28, at UMES, and his first appearance since Mar. 11, at Liberty University ... Mickey Shupin's 11-game hit streak came to end.
