Colonials Fall To Patriots, 17-5
April 7, 2009
ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team returned to Barcroft Park Tuesday afternoon, but dropped a 17-5 decision to the George Mason Patriots. Junior Chris Holland and senior Tim Reeves hit home runs for the Colonials, but it was not enough to stop the hot-hitting Patriots clubs, who improved to 25-5 with the win.
Junior Ryan Lapointe started for the Colonials, but only was able to get through two innings while giving up six earned runs. LaPointe lost his first game of the season and fell to 4-1 on the season.
George Washington was victim to many early Patriot runs, as the Colonial Athletic Conference leader scored nine runs in the first three innings to jump out to a 9-0 lead. That lead grew to 11-1 after five innings and continued to increase throughout the contest.
The Colonials fell to 16-15 on the season and also have a 5-3 record within Atlantic 10 competition. They will take on Towson on Wednesday, April 8 in a game that was originally scheduled for last Wednesday, April 1st, but was moved back due to bad weather last week.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Towson, MD. Justin Dignelli is set to make his first start of the season for the Colonials in the afternoon contest.
