CHARLOTTE, NC - The George Washington baseball team staged an enormous comeback in the second game of the doubleheader in Charlotte on Saturday afternoon, but fell short by the score of 10-9 when the 49ers scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth. The Colonials faced a 9-2 deficit in the fifth inning, but scored seven unanswered runs to tie the score at nine.
Redshirt junior Sean Rockey had three hits and five RBI to lead the offense and junior Tom Zebroski had three hits as well.
The Colonials gave up six first inning runs but scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, before having their major breakthrough in the eighth inning when they scored four runs to tie the score at nine apiece.
Junior Chris Holland hit his fourth home run of the season and Rockey hit his seventh of the season in defeat.
The Colonials will wrap up the series tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. against the same 49ers team. Senior Pat Lehman is the probable starter for the Colonials.
