PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Gabe Scott tallied three hits and senior Owen Beightol added two but the George Washington baseball team was unable to record a series sweep and fell to La Salle, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
GW's Bobby LeWarne took the loss after allowing four unearned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work.
La Salle (10-22, 5-5 A-10) took a 1-0 lead by scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the second and extended the lead to 3-0 on a two-run triple following an error in the bottom of the third.
GW (11-22, 4-8 A-10) stranded two runners on base in the top of the fifth inning before La Salle added a fourth run, aided by an error, in the bottom half of the fifth.
Sophomore Matthieu Robert got the Colonials on the board with a RBI single in the top of the eighth but the Explorers responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to push the lead back to four at 5-1.
Scott finished 3-for-4 on the day while Beightol was 2-for-3.
GW visits UMBC on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. before hosting Massachusetts for a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Barcroft Park next weekend.
