Baseball Completes Sweep of Dayton
GW Wins Doubleheader, 17-5 and 9-6

DAYTON, OH - The Colonials completed an Atlantic 10 conference sweep of the University of Dayton Monday. The Colonials blew the Flyers away in game one, winning 17-5, before finishing the tri-series with a 9-6 win. The Colonials are now 23-13 overall, 10-2 in the A-10, while the Flyers drop to 19-12, 7-5 in the conference.
Game one saw the Colonials take an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run to right center by senior tri-captain Matt Krimmel (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland). The Flyers bounced back to score two runs of their own in the second on RBI doubles by Aaron Reesh and Andy Boehmer. The score remained tied at two until GW put the game away in the last three-innings, scoring five, four, and six runs over that span. UD's lone break came in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, but it was not enough.
Game two saw UD jump out to an early 5-1 lead off of two runs in the first, and three in the second. Rory Thornton tacked on two of UD's runs in the second with a homer to right field. However, the four-run lead would be the last Dayton would enjoy, as the Colonials pored on five runs in the top of the third. The visitor third was highlighted by junior Jake Wald's (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) two-RBI double and a two-run homer by senior Mike Bassett (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy). The Colonials added three more insurance runs in the seventh to help seal the 9-6 victory.
GW will host Georgetown Tuesday afternoon at Barcroft Park. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
