PHILADELPHIA, PA- The George Washington baseball team trailed 2-0 entering the sixth inning and rallied to tie the score, but were unable to complete the comeback as La Salle hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to take game two on Friday afternoon at Frank DeVincent Field, 5-2.

Sophomore Brian Derner got the start for GW (10-29, 3-8 A-10) and pitched an effective eight and one-third innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

La Salle (22-15, 9-5 A-10) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI ground out from Joe Bennie and a RBI single from Eric Kammler.

The Colonials tied the game the next inning with consecutive RBI doubles from sophomore Tyler McCarthy and freshman Owen Beightol.

La Salle led off the bottom half of the ninth inning with a single by Jeff Flack. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Freshman Aaron Weisberg entered the game in relief and intentionally walked the next batter to put runners on first and second with one out. The Explorers' Jon Gyles followed with the game-winning hit, a walk-off home run over the right field fence to give La Salle the 5-2 win.

The Colonials and Explorers will conclude their series on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm. RHP Tommy Gately will take the ball for GW against La Salle's Cody Weiss.
