Baseball Splits Doubleheader With the Dukes
GW Wins First Game 6-1, Drops Second

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Colonials split an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday with the Duquesne University Dukes. GW pitching led to a 6-1 win in the first game, but were handed the same treatment in the second game to fall 6-1. GW is now 34-16 overall and 15-5 in the A-10, while the Dukes are now 24-21 for the season and 10-10 in the conference.
In the first game, junior tri-captain Chris Barry (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) scored the first run for GW in the second inning on an error by DU catcher, Gary Lee. The Colonials added five more in the top of the sixth. Senior Travis Crowder (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) singled to drive in freshman Anthony Raglani (Indiana, PA/Indiana), who had reached on a fielder's choice, and sophomore Jeff Fertitta (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield), who had singled. Senior tri-captain Matt Krimmel (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) followed with a single to score senior Tony Brown (Hockessin, DE/A.I.DuPont) and Crowder. Junior Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) also raced home to score on an error by DU first baseman, John Rieg. The Dukes scored their one and only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice. Senior righthander Jason Baker (Accokeek, MD/DeMatha) pitched a complete seven innings, allowing one run and four hits with nine strikeouts, to earn his fifth win of the season.
The Dukes scored four quick runs in the second game when Jonathan Kelly hit a grand slam to score Pete Maropis, Sean Wilson, and Rieg, who had each singled. The Colonials struggled to respond, scoring their first and only run in the top of the fifth on a home run by Fertitta. DU added two more in the bottom of that fifth for the final margin. Duquesne lefthander Craig Antolik earned his third win this season after pitching a complete seven innings and allowing one run and four hits.
The Colonials and Dukes will complete their series on Sunday, May 5 at noon.
