Box Score

ARLINGTON, VA - In its final home game of the season, George Washington University (18-30, 9-10 A-10) committed three errors in the ninth inning that turned a 3-3 game into a 7-3 Saint Louis University (26-21, 13-8 A-10) Atlantic 10 Conference victory at Barcroft Park.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Colonials used RBI singles from third baseman Tom Shanley (Stanfordville, NY / Pine Plains) and catcher Andrew Abokhair (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) along with a bases loaded walk to plate a run and fight back and tie the game 3-3.

But GW's defense came apart in the top of the ninth inning by committing three miscues and one wild pitch that directly led to four Billikens' unearned runs, giving SLU the game 7-3.

LHP Dan Pfau (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) started for GW and was effective in 5.0 innings of work, allowing two earned runs and striking out a career-high 10 batters.

Reliever RHP Derek Haese (5-3) allowed just one hit and struck out two in the game's final 2.1 innings but was on the mound for the three Colonial errors and, as a result, takes the loss.

SLU starter RHP Eric Rohr was also effective in his 6.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits in the no decision. Reliever B.J Rodrigue (3-2) threw the Billikens' final 2.1 innings and earned the win.

Second baseman Gilbert Marlowe homered (2) to straight away centerfield to lead off the fourth inning and increased SLU's lead to 2-0. Right fielder Ryan Crespi doubled home a run to make it a 3-0 Billikens' advantage in the top of the seventh.

With the win, SLU takes all three series games against the Colonials this weekend.

GW will be idle during the week and return to A-10 play on Friday when it opens a three-game series at Richmond. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
