Baseball Topped by VCU in Game Two

ARLINGTON, Va. - Three Colonials posted multiple-hit efforts, but the George Washington baseball team was topped by VCU, 6-2, in Saturday's middle game at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.

Key Stats

  • Senior Mark Osis finished 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Colonials' offense. Classmate Robbie Metz (2 H, 1 R) and sophomore Steven Barmakian (2 H) also contributed multi-hit games.
  • Junior Dominic D'Alessandro tallied his first Division I triple when he drove in a run in the fourth inning.
  • GW pitchers struggled with location on Saturday, combining to allow eight walks, four hit batters and two wild pitches.
  • VCU used a trio of scoring innings, plating two in the fourth, one in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie, and three in the seventh.

  • Top 4: VCU loaded the bases to start the fourth inning but only came away with two runs, courtesy of a pair of RBI singles (VCU 2, GW 0).
  • Bottom 4: Metz and Osis reached base on consecutive one-out singles to put runners on the corners with one out. Metz scored on a double-steal attempt as Osis was thrown out at second for GW's first run. After a walk to sophomore Nate Fassnacht, D'Alessandro roped a RBI triple down the left field line into the corner to tie the game (GW 2, VCU 2).
  • Top 6: The Rams scored the go-ahead run on an infield RBI single (VCU 3, GW 2).
  • Top 7: VCU extended the lead with a two-run home run. Another run scored on a double play (VCU 6, GW 2).
