Box Score

RICHMOND, VA - The University of Richmond (21-29, 11-12 A-10) scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and starter RHP Alex Hale (7-2) held the Colonials scoreless on six hits in 7.0 innings as the Spiders defeated George Washington University (19-31, 10-11 A-10) 7-0 Saturday afternoon in the second of a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series at Pitt Field.

UR led 4-0 in the seventh inning before third baseman Cameron Brown made it 7-1 with a tremendous three-run home run to left centerfield.

GW posted eight hits on the day but didn't have a runner reach third base until the ninth inning when third baseman Tom Shanley (Stanfordville, NY/ Pine Plains) led off the frame with a double and scored on designated hitter Chris Marsicano's (Old Tappan, NJ / Bergen Catholic) RBI two-bagger, making the count 7-1.

RHP Derek Haese (5-4) started for GW and lasted 3.0 innings, allowing the Spiders' three-run first inning to suffer the loss. First baseman Joe Mahoney singled in a run and catcher Hank Coogan doubled home two more in the frame to give UR the early lead.

The Spiders took a 4-0 advantage in the fourth inning when second baseman Benji Marshall lined a two-out double into right centerfield to drive home left fielder Vince Riggi who doubled to lead the inning off.

RHP Brian Frazier (Allentown, PA / Emmaus) threw a scoreless eighth inning of relief for the Colonials.

GW took the series opener on Friday, 5-4, so the teams will meet for the rubber match Sunday morning with an extra early start of 10:00 a.m.
