ARLINGTON, Va. - Playing their final regular-season game at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park, and needing a win to be in a position to control their own postseason fate entering the final weekend of the season, the George Washington senior class played a huge role in leading the Colonials to a big 11-2 win over VCU on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon.

Key Stats

  • GW's four senior position players all played a huge roll in the victory. The quartet of Mark Osis, Robbie Metz, Matt Cosentino and Brandon Chapman combined for seven RBI, five extra-base hits and six runs.
  • Osis finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with a three-run home run, two doubles and five RBI. It was his sixth home run of the season and his second career five-RBI effort.
  • Metz doubled twice, scored three times, drew a walk and stole a base.
  • Cosentino drove in two runs and scored once.
  • Chapman walked twice, scored a run and drove in another run.
  • Junior Dominic D'Alessandro (2 H, 2B, 2 R, RBI), junior Nate Fassnacht (3 H, 2 R, 1 BB) and sophomore Steven Barmakian (2 H, 2B, 1 R) also had big days at the plate.
  • Isaiah Pasteur had a huge day both on the plate and at the mound. In his second start of the season on the hill he fired seven strong innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs with just one walk and six strikeouts. At the plate, he drove in GW's first runs of the day on a two-run triple in the bottom of the second.
  • Junior Will Kobos closed the game with two perfect innings of relief. He fanned three and did not allow a baserunner.

  • Bottom 2: Fassnacht led off the inning with a single to right and moved to third on a base hit by D'Alessandro. Cosentino laid down a squeeze bunt to drive in the first run of the day. Later in the inning, Chapman battled back from an 0-2 count to draw a two-out walk to extend the inning. Pasteur then came to the plate and roped a two-run triple to deep right field (GW 3, VCU 0).
  • Bottom 3: Metz led off with a walk and stole second base. Osis was up next and blasted a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right-center field for his sixth home run of the season (GW 5, VCU 0).
  • Top 5: A fielding error with two outs allowed VCU to keep the inning alive and eventually score a pair of unearned runs (GW 5, VCU 2).
  • Bottom 5: The Colonials responded with four runs on five hits. The runs came in courtesy of RBI doubles by Osis and D'Alessandro, an infield RBI single by Cosentino and a sacrifice fly by Cosentino (GW 9, VCU 2).
  • Bottom 6: Sophomore Steven Barmakian led off the sixth with a double to right field and then scored when Osis roped a RBI double down the right-field line (GW 10, VCU 2).
  • Bottom 8: Metz hit a one-out double, moved to third on a wild pitch and then easily scored after Osis' second double of the day (GW 11, VCU 2).
