GW Baseball Drops Season Finale, 11-1, at UMass
Four Seniors Record Hits in Final Game

AMHERST, Mass. - The George Washington baseball team concluded the 2012 season on Saturday, falling to Massachusetts, 11-1, at Earl Lorden Field.
UMass (22-20, 14-10 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI single by Anthony Serrino and never looked back as the Minutemen scored a total of seven runs in the first five innings.
GW (20-35, 6-18 A-10) scored its lone run in the top of the sixth as the Colonials opened the frame with consecutive singles from seniors Brett Bowers and Jimmy Best. A popup double play left one runner on base, who was singled home by junior Kyle Gelling to make the score 7-1.
The Minutemen posted four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the 11-1 lead. Andrew Grant earned the win after allowing one run in 5.2 innings.
Bowers finished 2-for-4 in his final collegiate game. Classmates Stephen Oswald (1-for-3), Jimmy Best (1-for-4, one run), Ryan Thomas (1-for-3, one walk) also reached base in their final appearance. These seniors, along with Luke Mirabella, Ollie Mittag and Eric Lara will graduate from George Washington on the National Mall on Sunday afternoon.
