Washington, D.C. (Feb. 24) - Brad Lamm's infield single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth off of GW closer Bryan Beggs (Somerset, PA/ Somerset Area) broke a 4-4 tie and led Charlotte to a 5-4 victory over GW Feb. 24 at Phillips Field.

Charlotte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Thomas Bowker scored on an Eric Shanks single to left in the first inning.

The Colonials tied the game at 1 in the third inning. Sophomore Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams) doubled to centerfield and would later score on an RBI groundout by sophomore Tony Dokoupil (Severna Park, MD/ Severna Park).

Charlotte would regain the lead in the fourth on a RBI single to left by George Sandel to take a 2-1 lead. The 49ers extended their lead to 3-1 in the sixth when Bowker tripled to center allowing Sandel to score.

The Colonials rallied to tie the game in the seventh. Senior Dan Rouhier (McLean, VA/ St. Alban's) was hit by a pitch and later scored on a RBI groundout by freshman Jeff Fertitta (Baltimore, MD/ Loyola Blakefield). Wald then followed Ross Smirne's (Fleetville, PA/ Lackawanna Trail) double with a RBI single to tie the game at 3.

GW took the lead in the eighth when redshirt sophomore Travis Crowder (Manassas, VA/ Osbourn) scored on a Charlotte error.

Beggs, the Atlantic 10's top returning closer, came on in the ninth to close the door on the 49ers, but it was not to be. Bowker led off the inning with an infield single and would later score on a triple by Brad Erwin, which setup Lamm's heroics.

The Colonials and 49ers complete their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
