GW Baseball Game Notes

Home Sweet Home:
GW went 19-3 at Barcroft Park in 2003 for the team's best ever .864 winning percentage at home. Since their arrival at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA, the Colonials are an impressive 178-83 (.682) at home. GW has also won more than 20 games at home in four out of the last six seasons. In 2004, the Colonials have the benefit of playing 30 games at home including 19 games in the month of March alone with a 14-game home stand to end the month. This year the team is 2-0 at home after defeating Old Dominion 8-6 and Georgetown, 7-6.

Streaking Shanley:
Sophomore Tom Shanley is enjoying an eight-game hitting streak dating back to February 22nd against then-No. 16 Florida Atlantic. Last week alone, Shanley had three doubles and he started this week with another double and a homer. Shanley started his freshman campaign with a 15-game winning streak last year as a freshman. In 2003 Shanley was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year after batting .398 as a freshman.

Milsom Matches Mark:
Junior Geoff Milsom has matched his doubles mark of last season in just 10 games this year. He hit his fourth double of the season in just 10 games whereas it took him all of last season to reach the mark last year. He leads the team in hitting with a .406 average and is batting .183 points above last year's mark.

Saving Grace:
Junior Nick Koken has nine career saves which puts him in third all-time at GW. Koken collected seven saves as a sophomore closer after starting for much of his freshman year including a no-hitter. This year he is a perfect two for two in save opportunities and has also collected one of the Colonials three wins. Koken needs to earn just one more save to tie for second all-time for the Colonials with 10.

Beginners Luck:
Sophomore Bill Simpson made a splash in his first collegiate start when he hit two home runs against Georgetown to key a Colonials comeback on February, 24th. He then hit his third homer of the year in his fourth college game against Texas-San Antonio to bat .500 for the week with five RBI and three runs. Simpson also became the first Colonial of 2004 honored by the Atlantic 10 when he was named Rookie of the Week. Simpson transferred during his freshman year from South Carolina and is the Colonials first-ever High School All-American. Simpson also pitched two scoreless innings against No. 16 Florida Atlantic and is the only GW pitcher was has not given up a run so far this season.

Pitcher Perfect:
Sophomore starter Dan Pfau is undefeated for the Colonials with a perfect 7-0 record over his first two years. This year, Pfau has pitched thrice, twice as a starter and once in relief. He has one win for GW in an 8-6 victory over ODU at home on March 2. Pfau has the highest winning percentage on GW's all-time list and is joined by senior captain Dennis Gramolini who is tied for second at 5-1 (.833) record.

Raglani Ranked Nationally:
Junior Anthony Raglani was ranked 97th in this year's draft class by Baseball America due largely to an outstanding summer in the Cape Code League. He is also featured online in draft preview.
