Baseball Hosts Pair of Midweek Games Ahead of Spring Break Trip
Colonials face UMBC and Delaware State before hitting road
LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team will wrap its current seven-game homestand when it hosts UMBC (Tues., 2:30 p.m.) and Delaware State (Wed., 2:30 p.m.) in a pair of midweek games at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
PITCHING WELL: GW ranks second overall in the conference with a team ERA of 3.23. Five of GW's pitchers with at least one inning pitched on the season have yet to allow an earned run.
ON THE MOVE: Never shy about sending runners on the base paths, head coach Gregg Ritchie's squad ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in stolen bases, going 16-of-21 in attempts so far this season. Senior Isaiah Pasteur is tied for the A-10 lead and is a perfect 6-for-6 in steal attempts.
STREAKING: Senior Matt Cosentino has hit safely in five straight games after powering GW throughout the last week. He totaled two home runs and 10 RBIs in five games last week while finishing with multiple hits in three games.
DRIVING THEM HOME: Sophomore Nate Fassnacht currently sits second in the A-10 with 12 RBI on the season. Cosentino and senior Mark Osis are right behind him, tied at sixth overall in the conference with 10 apiece.
LOOK AHEAD: GW will head south to the heart of Texas for spring break. The Colonials will visit Baylor for a three-game series (Friday-Sunday) before playing a neutral-site game against Minnesota on Tuesday (March 13) in Dallas.
SERIES HISTORY: GW swept the home-and-home series last year with UMBC to improve its record in the all-time series to 33-18.
The Colonials also won both games against Delaware State last year and lead the series, 13-8-1.
