March 5, 2018

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington senior outfielder Matt Cosentino has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

It is the first conference honor of Cosentino's career and comes after a monster week at the plate where he helped the Colonials to a 4-1 record.

The West Long Branch, New Jersey, native reached base in all five games last week, including three multiple-hit games, and tallied two five-RBI efforts.

He batted .429 (9-of-21) over the five games with two home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored while playing flawless defense at first base.

He started his week by hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to lead GW to a come-from-behind victory over Georgetown. He went 2-for-5 in the game against the Hoyas before picking up a hit and scoring a run in Wednesday's win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

He got the weekend series against Monmouth started with another massive game at the plate. He went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI on Saturday before going a combined 3-for-8 with two runs in Sunday's doubleheader sweep.

GW will play two midweek games this week against UMBC (Tues., 2:30 p.m.) and Delaware State (Weds., 2:30 p.m.).
