March 8, 2018

LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team heads to the Lone Star State for a quartet of games on its annual spring break trip this weekend. GW opens a three-game series in Waco against Baylor on Friday night. On Tuesday, the Colonials will battle Minnesota in a neutral-site game in Dallas.

ON THE RISE: GW pulled its season record above .500 for the first time this season (7-6) with Wednesday's 12-6 win over Delaware State. The win punctuated a 6-1 homestand for the Colonials that saw victories over Georgetown, Maryland Eastern Shore, Monmouth (x2), UMBC and Delaware State. The Colonials outscored the opposition, 58-31, in the homestand while averaging 8.3 runs per game.

STREAKING: Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Matt Cosentino continues to swing a hot bat. He hit safely in all seven games of the recent homestand to raise his season average to .306. Cosentino is also tied for the team lead with senior Mark Osis and sophomore Nate Fassnacht with 12 RBI apiece.

Sophomore Steven Barmakian also carries a hitting streak into the weekend after registering hits in each of the last six games.

ON THE MARK: Senior Mark Osis is batting an even .400 this season and leads the Atlantic 10 entering the weekend in total hits (20) and total bases (30) while ranking fourth overall in batting average. His hot start has featured a team-leading eight multi-hit games, including three outings with three or more.

HOT START: Sophomore Elliott Raimo has picked up right where he left off following his A-10 All-Rookie and ABCA/Rawling All-East Region campaign as a freshman. Through three starts, he leads the A-10 with a 16-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and has surrendered just four earned runs over 20.2 innings of work for a 1.74 ERA.

TEAM EFFORT: GW continues rank amongst the league leaders in team pitching, entering the weekend with a staff ERA of 3.28, which ranks third in the conference.

SERIES HISTORY: GW has faced both Baylor and Minnesota only one time in program history. The Colonials lost to the Bears on the road during the 1995 season and fell to the Gophers at NCAA Regionals in 1992.
