Baseball Freshmen Earn A-10 Weekly Honors

May 1, 2017

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington baseball's freshmen duo of Elliott Raimo and Nate Fassnacht have each earned weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 after big performances helped the Colonials to three wins last week.

Raimo was named the A-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season while Fassnacht was recognized as the Rookie of the Week.

Raimo spun a complete-game shutout with a career-high nine strikeouts to lead the Colonials to a series-tying, 5-0 win over Davidson on Saturday afternoon. Raimo allowed just two hits all day with one walk and one hit batter, but the men on base never harmed him as he went the distance on 113 pitchers, firing 81 for strikes.

The 6-foot-4 righty worked five 1-2-3 innings and got a pair of double plays to ensure the shutout.

Fassnacht, who earns his first career A-10 weekly award, was on fire at the plate across four games last week. He batted .467 (7-of-15) for the week with RBIs in all four contests, including his first career home run.

He started his week at Delaware State and went 2-for-4 with a RBI single and a three-run home run for his first career four-RBI game.

He hit safely and drove in a run in all three games of the weekend series against Davidson. Against the Wildcats he went a combined 5-for-11 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs.

The rookie also played a perfect shortstop with no errors, 13 assists and three putouts on the week
