May 15, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - Graduate student Nick Iovacchini (Asheville, NC/Asheville) and junior Tony Dokoupil (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) were named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II Team in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a grade-point average of at least 3.20 and be a starter or key reserve.

Iovacchini (pronounced Yo-va-KEY-nee), an International Trade and Investment Policy major, can boast the highest GPA on the First Team with a 3.89. While studying for his MBA, Iovacchini spends him time on the baseball field, mostly as the designated hitter or second base. He has played in 34 games this season, starting 27. He is a perfect six-for-six in stolen bases and has committed just eight errors in 102 chances. Iovacchini has twice made the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and has been a member of the GW Dean's List and the GW Athletic Department Dean's List for three semesters.

A marketing major, Dokoupil made the second team with a 3.88 GPA. The outfielder has played in 41 games, starting 34. This season, he leads the team in sacrifice flies with five and is tied for second on the team in sacrifice bunts with four. Dokoupil has swiped four bases this year, which ranks him as 11th on the GW career stolen bases list with 38. He is a three- time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and a member of the GW Dean's List and the GW Athletic Department Dean's List.
