Beightol Carries Eight-Game Hit Streak Into Final Weekend

WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball will conclude the 2012 season with a visit to Amherst, Mass., to play Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts for a three-game series at Earl Lorden Field. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Colonials' seven seniors will arrive back in D.C. in time for Sunday's Commencement on the National Mall.
GW (20-32, 6-15 A-10) is coming off a lightning-shortened 1-0 loss to William & Mary on Tuesday night. Junior J.T. Wauford pitched a strong game, but ultimately took the loss after allowing one earned run on four hits in seven strong innings.
Sophomore Owen Beightol leads the Colonials' offense in batting average (.318), slugging percentage (.474), runs (30), home runs (five) and total bases (82) to go with 19 RBIs. He carries an eight-game hitting streak into the final weekend, as he has hit .467 with seven doubles, two home runs and three RBIs during the stretch.
Junior Kenny O'Brien leads GW and ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with a 2.22 ERA. The Yonkers, N.Y., native also leads the team with five wins, six saves and 51 strikeouts in 56.2 innings of relief.
Last season, UMass took 2-of-3 games from the Colonials at Barcroft Park and lead the all-time series 20-16
