May 20, 2013
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington baseball freshman catcher Matthieu Robért has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The award marks the first career conference honor for the backstop from New Orleans.
Robért hit .455 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Colonials to a sweep of La Salle and their first Atlantic 10 Championship berth since 2006. He got a hit in all three games, including multiple-hit efforts on Thursday and Saturday.
On Thursday he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and his first career triple. After recording a hit on Friday, Robért came through in a big way with a pair of RBI singles on Saturday to lead the Colonials to the sweep over La Salle and the No. 5 seed in this week's Atlantic 10 Championship.
Behind the plate, Robért gunned down three runners on steal attempts.
The Colonials open play in the Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday at 10 a.m. against No. 4 Xavier at Charlotte's Hayes Stadium.
