Kobos Named A-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week

May 21, 2018

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington junior pitcher Will Kobos has earned Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after his heroic relief appearance on Saturday at Saint Louis that helped the Colonials to a postseason-clinching victory in 13 innings.

With GW needing a win to clinch its fourth consecutive postseason appearance, head coach Gregg Ritchie turned to Kobos in the sixth inning of a 2-2 game in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Kobos was brilliant out of the bullpen, spinning eight shutout innings and allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts. He walked six in the outing (two intentional), but ended the game stranding 10 runners on base, including the potential tying and game-winning run in the bottom half of the 13th inning.

Kobos boasts a 0.99 ERA, five saves and a 3-1 record over 21 appearances and 45.2 innings this season. He has fanned 45 on the year while limiting opponents to a .202 batting average, including just three extra-base hits (all doubles).

The Colonials will open play in the Atlantic 10 Championship as the No. 7 seed against No. 2 George Mason on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
