May 22, 2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington baseball junior Kenny O'Brien was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The selection marks the first A-10 honor of O'Brien's career. O'Brien concluded his third season with the Colonials by leading the team and ranking third in the conference with a 2.76 ERA. He also led GW with five wins, 52 strikeouts and six saves in 58.2 innings of relief while holding opposing players to a .231 batting average. He emerged as a backbone of the Colonials' bullpen as a junior as the hurler inherited a total of 22 runners in relief this season and allowed only 10 to score. After three seasons with the Colonials, O'Brien ranks 13th in program history with 60 career appearances and is tied for ninth with seven career saves. The Yonkers, N.Y., native boasts a 3.32 cumulative grade-point average as an economics major, has appeared on GW Athletics Academic Dean's List for five semesters and was named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the spring 2011 semester.
