Two More GW Players Signed by Major League Teams

June 17, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - Former George Washington University baseball players Joe Michalski (Ellicott City, MD / Mt. Hebron) and Dan Sullivan (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) each signed contracts with professional baseball teams earlier this week.

Michalski, a catcher, signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization and was assigned to the Class A Aberdeen IronBirds in Aberdeen, MD. The IronBirds play their home games at Ripken Stadium.

Sullivan, a left-handed pitcher, signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization and was assigned to their rookie team, the Princeton Devil Rays, in Princeton, WV.

Michalski and Sullivan became the second and third Colonials, respectively, to join Major League organizations this season. First baseman Ryan Roberson (Silver Spring, MD / James H. Blake) was selected in the 30th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers June 8.

Michalski and Sullivan were both instrumental in GW's Atlantic 10 West Division regular season title and conference tournament championship game appearance this season.

Michalski started 51 of the teams 60 games behind the plate this year and was third on the squad with 10 home runs. Sullivan started 14 games on the mound and went 7-4 with a 5.71 ERA.

The Aberdeen IronBirds and Princeton Devil Rays begin their seasons June 21.
