DURHAM, NC - Freshman Anthony Smith (Katonah, NY/John Jay) was named to the 2004 Baseball America Freshman All-America First Team, the publication has announced.

A five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, Smith led the A-10 in RBIs with 69, while ranking second in both homers (15) and slugging percentage (.701). He also finished fourth in the Conference with 131 total bases and boasted a .369 batting average. On the mound, the southpaw compiled a 6-3 record in 15 starts while fanning 67 in 81 2/3 innings in leading George Washington to a 19-5 mark in Conference play (41-18 overall) and the West Division title.

In addition to being selected to the 15-member team by Baseball America, Smith was also named to the 2004 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team on June 18.
