As a Freshman in 2012-13:
One of three GW players to start all 30 games (Armwood, Garino) ... Averaged 7.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals and team-best 3.2 assists in 28.1 minutes ... Scored in double-figures eight times ... Led GW with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 2-of-2 behind the arc in victory over Dayton (3/9/13) ... Scored 11 of 12 points in final 11 minutes, including game-winning jumpshot with 9.3 seconds remaining, in 66-65 victory at Rhode Island (1/23/13) ... Provided first collegiate double-double with team-high 16 points and 10 assists in victory at Massachusetts (1/19/13). Went 10-of-13 at the free throw line ... Named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week and GWsports.com Colonial of the Week after leading GW to victory at Boston Univ. (11/17/12) with 21 points and seven rebounds. 21 points were most for a GW freshman since Nemanja Mikic scored 23 against UNC Wilmington in Nov. 2010.

HIGH SCHOOL
McDonald, a 6-foot-1-inch guard from Lorton, Va., starred at the Landon School in Bethesda, Md., where he earned First Team All-Met honors from The Washington Post in both 2011 and 2012. The 43rd-rated point guard prospect in the nation according to ESPN, McDonald averaged 22.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block as a senior in 2012, highlighted by 49-point, 18-rebound effort against conference rival Episcopal. He was a finalist for the 2012 ESPNHS Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year award, and was a three-time First Team All-Interstate Athletic Conference (IAC) selection. He capped his scholastic career as the lone incoming 2012-13 Atlantic 10 recruit to be named PARADE All-American.

"Joe is a winner," said Coach Lonergan. "He is a fierce competitor with a high basketball IQ. Joe will have the opportunity to come in as a freshman and compete to be our starting point guard. I love his physical and mental toughness."
