RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Maureece Rice scored six points during a 7-0 run late in the game, lifting George Washington to a 63-58 win over Richmond on Wednesday night.

The Spiders' Peter Thomas tied the game at 54 with 2:13 remaining with a pair of free throws. Then Rice connected on a pair of jumpers and two free throws, and Carl Elliott hit a free throw with 21.7 seconds remaining to give the Colonials a secure 61-54 lead.

George Washington (12-4, 3-1 Atlantic 10) hit 5 of 8 free throws in the final 42.8 seconds.

The Colonials had balanced scoring led by Elliott's 14. Dokun Akingbade added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Rice, Travis King and Rob Diggs each had 10 points.

The Spiders (5-12, 1-3) received 13 points from Jarhon Giddings, matching his career-high. Dan Geriot added 12.
