Rice, GW Pull Away From Saint Joseph's; Win 74-65 To Extend Home Win Streak

WASHINGTON (AP) - Maureece Rice scored 19 points, including the go-ahead layup with 3:24 to play, and George Washington beat Saint Joseph's 74-65 Wednesday night for its 24th straight home win.
Carl Elliott led George Washington (14-4, 5-1 Atlantic 10) with 20 points and seven assists.
Pat Calathes had a career-high 21 points and Rob Ferguson added 14 for the Hawks (11-8, 4-3), the last team to beat the Colonials at home, on March 1, 2005.
The Hawks committed 20 turnovers.
Rice's nifty reverse layup gave GW a 64-62 lead. After a steal, Elliott's layup increased the lead to four with 3:08 to go, and the Colonials never trailed.
The Hawks opened the game by hitting their first seven shots to take a 15-2 lead and led, 34-30 at halftime after tying a season high with 21 rebounds in the first half.
Saint Joseph's led, 57-51 with 9:03 left before George Washington roared back with a 11-5 run, tying the game at 62 on Regis Koundjia's basket with 4:09 to play.
