Colonials Fall To Duquesne, 92-67

Jan. 26, 2008

Final Stats

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Shawn James had 21 points, seven rebounds and five blocks as Duquesne won its 13th game in a season for the first time in 14 years, beating George Washington 92-67 Saturday night.

James, who missed Wednesday's win over St. Bonaventure due to a knee injury, finished with a season-high in points and raised his career block total to 403. He is the 18th player in NCAA Division I history to record at least 400 blocks.

Kojo Mensah added 13 points for Duquesne (13-5, 3-2 Atlantic 10), which hadn't won 13 games since going 17-13 and making the NIT in 1993-94.

Wynton Witherspoon had 17 points and Rob Diggs 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Colonials (5-10, 1-4), who lost their fourth straight.

Utilizing the 10-man rotation that features two units of five playing roughly equal minutes in a high-tempo, pressing style, Duquesne seized control of the game early and never really let up. The Dukes opened the game on a 22-8 run and added a 20-9 run midway through the first half.

The Colonials, who have lost eight in a row on the road, did not convert a field goal during a seven-minute span in the first half. Duquesne led 53-32 at the break.

George Washington committed a season-high 29 turnovers and shot 41 percent from the field.
