George Washington Tops La Salle, 86-74

PHILADELPHA (AP) - Carl Elliott had 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists to lead George Washington to an 86-74 victory over La Salle on Saturday.

Maureece Rice added 21 points and Dokun Akingbade had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Colonials (17-8, 8-5 Atlantic 10), who won their third straight after dropping four in a row.

Ruben Guillandeaux scored 15 points and Darnell Harris contributed 13 for the Explorers (10-18, 3-11), who have lost eight of ten and seven straight to the Colonials dating back to January 11, 2003.

The Explorers struggled shooting the entire game, going just 6-for-24 (25 percent) in the first half and 22-for-62 (35.5 percent) overall.

George Washington used a 20-6 run on the way to a 42-27 halftime lead, outscoring the Explorers 22-2 in the paint and holding a 27-12 edge in rebounding. La Salle did not make a field goal during the final 10:35 of the half.

The Explorers opened up the second half with a 14-6 run to cut the lead to 48-41 with 15:58 remaining, but would come no closer. The teams traded baskets for most of the second half before George Washington pulled away in the final minutes.

Harris, La Salle's leading scorer, came off the bench for the third straight game since suffering an ankle injury.
