E#4 Fordham 49, W#5 Dayton 45

All-conference third-team selection Monica Mack scored a game-high 20 points to lead E#4 Fordham past W#5 Dayton, 49-45, in the opening round of the 2005 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship. Mack was only 5-of-13 from the field, but hit three treys and all seven of her free throws.

The Rams trailed the entire first half until Vanessa Silva sank two free-throws with 1:11 to go in the opening period to knot the score 18- 18 at halftime. In a tightly contested second half, Fordham was able to generate an eight-point lead with 42 seconds left and held on for the four-point victory.

Jada Jefferson added 10 points for the Rams and Lara Hanson grabbed 10 rebounds.

Cara Wright led Dayton, notching a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Emily Williams chipped in 11 points.

Fordham will meet W#1 George Washington in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 5 at 4:00 p.m.
