BOSTON (AP) - Carl Elliott scored 25 points to lead George Washington over Boston University 70-57 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Boston led 1-0 to open the game, but never led again. George Washington built a 27-10 first-half lead and then withstood several BU rallies. The Terriers cut the gap to seven points at the half and climbed to within four shortly after intermission. George Washington went on a run of its own, then BU charged back to trail by five with 7:37 left.
The Colonials iced the game with a 15-5 run, during which Boston University scored only one field goal.
Elliott was 7-for-11 from the field and 11-for-11 from the foul line. He also grabbed five rebounds, had three assists and three steals for GW. Rob Diggs added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Colonials.
BU freshman Carlos Strong led the Terriers with 19 points, 15 of them coming on 3-pointers as he went 5-for-8 from behind the arc.
