Post-game comments
GW Coach Karl Hobbs
After three straight losses, was the timing of tonight's win good?
"I hope so. We needed a home game in the worst way. We needed a break tonight, and it worked out well for us."
Did this game give you a chance to work out some kinks?
"I wouldn't call them kinks. I think our offense has been fine; we've been playing well at that end. Our problem has been turning the ball over without any pressure. We had a lot of turnovers tonight, but they weren't `bad' turnovers--they didn't result in the other team scoring points off them...More than anything else, I'm hopeful this game will give us more confidence."
Are you concerned that they had more offensive rebounds than you?
"That will always concern me because of our size. But that's a credit to them. It take energy and determination, and they were going after the ball. They played extremely hard until the very end."
Does it look like Maureece Rice has his shot back?
"It really did. He shot in rhythm and they were going in. We need him to start building some momentum with his shooting."
Why didn't Cheyenne Moore play?
"He got banged up in practice. But that's the way this season has gone. I wanted to put Robert Diggs back in tonight, but was afraid he'd turn an ankle or something. That's just the kind of season it's been for us."
What do you take from this game going to Virginia Tech and beyond?
"I hope it will give us some momentum. It's a win, and hopefully it will give us some confidence. Now we have a few days to prepare, to get ourselves ready for Sunday at Virginia Tech."
Xavier Alexander didn't look comfortable tonight. Does that concern you?

UMES Coach Meredith Smith
What did GW do to make it a struggle for you?
"They played very good defense. Any team coached by Karl Hobbs is going to play good defense. They're going to come with pressure, they're going to play 90 feet of basketball, and even their half-court defense is going to be pressure. However, I also thought we shot very poorly."
Ed Tyson struggled tonight. What do you have to do to make adjustments?
"You have to get other people involved offensively, obviously. But if they get shots and don't deliver, there's not much we can do. We missed quite a few open shots, and we have to start knocking them down."
How was GW's rebounding?
"They were obviously much stronger under the basket. They got a lot of offensive rebounds. That's a matter of us not understanding quite that we have to block out bigger opponents to be more effective rebounding. At times, it seemed like they kept shooting until they made it, and we didn't do a good job of boxing out."
