WASHINGTON (AP) - Jobey Thomas scored 29 points, and Cam Stephens had a career-high 24 points and tied his best with 15 rebounds to lead Charlotte over George Washington 97-87 Saturday.

Chris Monroe led the Colonials (7-4), who had won three straight games, with 26 points.

Charlotte (6-5) led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but George Washington cut it to six with 10 minutes remaining. Then after George Washington fell behind again by double digits, it got within 85-80 on Greg Collucci's 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining.

Stephens made two free throws and a layup down the stretch to keep the Colonials at bay.

The Colonials, playing their first game in three weeks, had trouble shaking off the rust in the first half and shot just 43 percent, including 1-for-9 on 3-pointers.

The Colonials finished the game 7-for-27 on 3s.

The 49ers used a 17-4 first-half run to take a 40-26 lead.
