Basketball's J.R. Pinnock Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

Jan. 18, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman J.R. Pinnock (McDonough, GA/Coastal Christian) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball, the league office has announced. It marks the first Atlantic 10 weekly award of his career.

A 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard, Pinnock scored his career-high 21 points in GW's only game of the week, a 74-57 victory over La Salle Saturday at Smith Center. In November, Pinnock was named to the preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team by the league's head coaches.

Pinnock's stats for the week: one game, 21 points on 9-14 FGs (.643), 3-6 3Pt. FGs (.500), two rebounds, two assists and one steal in 24 minutes.

One of the Colonials' impact freshmen, Pinnock has appeared in all 15 games and averaged 19.1 minutes per outing. He is tied for second on the team in steals with 21 while averaging 7.3 points per game and is shooting .412 (40-97) from the field and .767 (23-30) from the line.

GW (9-6, 3-1 A-10) next plays Dayton (14-3, 4-0 A-10) this Wednesday, Jan. 21, in a 7:00 p.m. game at the University of Dayton Arena.
