PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington's Rob Diggs has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball the league office announced Sunday. It marks the program's first A-10 weekly honor this season and the first since Maureece Rice won Player of the Week on Jan. 7, 2007.
In GW's only game last week, Diggs notched his fifth double-double of the season (7th career) with 20 points and 10 rebounds on Jan. 30 in George Washington's 61-59 loss to Saint Joseph's. More impressively, Diggs made all 10 of his field goal attempts, two shy of tying the A-10 single-game record for field goals without a miss, set by former Saint Joseph's standout Delonte West in 2004. It was the best shooting performance by a Colonial in more than 20 years. He also added a pair of blocks and is tied for second in the Conference with seven double-digit rebounding performances. The junior from Brandywine, MD, leads the Colonials in scoring (13.1 points per game) and rebounding (7.9 rpg) as well as field goal percentage at .511 (91-178) and blocks (1.3 bpg).
Diggs' stats for the week: one game, 20 points on 10-10 FGs (1.00), 10 rebounds (1 offensive, 9 defensive), 1 assist, 0 turnovers, 2 blocks in 35 total minutes.
GW (5-12, 1-6 A-10) next hosts La Salle (8-12, 3-4) Wednesday, Feb. 6, in an A-10 Conference game at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on FederalNewsRadio.com and 1050 AM.
