WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman J.R. Pinnock (McDonough, GA/Coastal Christian) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball, the league office has announced. It marks the second Atlantic 10 weekly award of his career.
A 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard, Pinnock equaled his career-high of 21 points in GW's 102-78 win over St. Bonaventure on Feb. 4 at Smith Center. He also had seven rebounds in that game. He recorded 18 points and seven boards in an 84-72 win against Rhode Island on Feb. 7.
In November, Pinnock was named to the preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team by the league's head coaches.
Pinnock's stats for the week: two games, 39 points on 14-23 FGs (.609), 1-3 3Pt. FGs (.333), 10-10 FTs (1.00), 14 rebounds, two assists and three steals in 51 minutes.
One of the Colonials' impact freshmen, Pinnock has appeared in all 21 games and averaged 20.6 minutes per outing. He is third on the team in steals with 31 while averaging 8.2 points per game and is shooting .435 (64-194) from the field and .810 (34-42) from the line.
Pinnock's play has been one of the catalysts behind GW's 7-3 conference record and ascension to second place in the Atlantic 10's West Division.
GW (13-8, 7-3 A-10) next plays Fordham (4-15, 1-7 A-10) this Wednesday, Feb. 11, in a 7:00 p.m. game at Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx, NY.
