Feb. 10, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Omar Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Celestial Prep) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball, the league office has announced. It marks his first A-10 weekly award.

Williams, a 6-foot-9, 180-pounder who can play a variety of positions, averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games this past week. He scored 13 points with nine rebounds in George Washington's 80-68 loss against No. 19 Xavier on Feb. 4. He also had 12 points and eight rebounds in a 77-72 loss at Rhode Island last Saturday.

Williams' statistics for the week: two games, 25 points on 9-15 (.600) shooting from the field, 7-10 from the line, 17 rebounds, four assists, two steals with a block.

One of the Colonials' impact freshmen, Williams has started 13 games and shares the team lead in blocked shots with 20.

GW (8-12, 2-7) next plays at Dayton (16-4, 8-1) Wednesday, Feb. 12, in a 7:30 p.m. game.
