Men's Basketball's Tamal Forchion Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

Feb. 17, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington's Tamal Forchion (Willingboro, NJ/Roman Catholic) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball Feb. 17, the league has announced. A preseason A-10 All-Rookie Team selection, it marked the first time this season Forchion has been recognized as the league's top rookie.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound freshman forward won the honor based on his performances against Xavier Feb. 14 and Duquesne Feb. 16, both on the road.

For the Week, Forchion averaged 16.0 points and pulled down 7.0 rebounds in a pair of games. He began the week with 13 points and four boards at Xavier on Feb. 14. He then posted the first double-double of his career with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Duquesne on Feb. 16. He was 13-24 (.542) from the field and 6-10 from the line with two blocks and an assist for the week.

Forchion, who has started 13 games, leads the Colonials in field goal percentage at .507 (68-134) and averages of 8.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

GW (10-14, 3-10) next hosts Dayton Thursday, Feb. 21 at Smith Center. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
